  • Prayers and Support Needed

April 28: It is with deep regret that WRCVFD announces the passing of Firefighter Jim Brown earlier today in Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville. Jim was a well-known Rockwood resident, a Vietnam combat veteran, West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department firefighter, and Roane County Rescue Squad volunteer; he will be greatly missed.

Please send your prayers for this neighbor, husband, father, and community volunteer, and for his family. For more information, contact West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department's Chaplain, Bruce Foster.

  • Finding Out More about Volunteering: Informational Meeting a Success

In honor of National Volunteer Week, WRCVFD held a meeting for people interested in finding out more about volunteering here. The meeting took place at 10 AM on Saturday, May 3, at Station #1 on Pumphouse Road.

National Volunteer Week began on April 27, 2008 and continued through May 3, 2008. The week was used as a celebration for all those who volunteer countless hours of their lives for the greater good of their communities and also serves as a time where others also volunteer their time to help the community. If you have been considering volunteering, now is a great time to start. More information can be found on the Opportunities page.

  • Continuing Internship Openings at WRCVFD for Pellissippi State Students

Updated March 9, 2008: At the suggestion of Charlie Mead, WRCVFD is working with Michael Tomlinson at Pellissippi State Technical Community College to try to find an intern to help with our web site and who in return will get college credit and learn more about real-world web design and programming. The internship would be web- and phone-based and could be performed remotely.

Each internship would be under the direction of an Associate Member, who would be expected to oversee the student's progress and provide the college with two formal evaluations per term. Each new intern will have an opportunity to learn XHTML, CSS, PHP, design for accessibility, preparation of web graphics, and techniques for web security.

A prospective intern should have some experience with making web pages using at least HTML, be attentive to detail, have access to a computer and the Internet, and preferably have an excellent command of written English.

    Internships are still available.
