Operation REACH Boot Drive
WRCVFD held a boot drive from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, December 3, 2011, to help raise funds for children's holiday gifts.
Roane County United Way Campaign Kick Off
Diana Knobloch, executive director of the Roane County United Way, announced that the United Way Campaign Kick Off for 2011 is Tuesday, September 20, in Kingston City Park Pavilion, the same location as last year. The family event is scheduled to run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The pavilion is large enough to accommodate everyone even in the event of inclement weather.
United Way will provide a hot dog lunch, have a featured speaker (yet to be determined), and each agency, including WRCVFD, will have a table display.
There may be door prizes provided by participating agencies.
Directions to Kingston City Park Pavilion:
From Knoxville / Oak Ridge:
Take Interstate 40 West to Exit #352/58 South, Kingston. Merge south (right) on Highway 58. Travel approximately 1 mile to Stoplight #5 (Highway 70). Rite Aid Pharmacy will be on the corner. Turn right at light #5 onto Highway 70 (West Race Street).
Travel 0.7 mile, past Red Bones on the River restaurant. The entrance to the park will be the first left past Red Bones. The Pavilion will be located on the right and parking will be on the left.

United Way is asking that visitors please park in the parking lot along the waterfront.

West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual "elegant junk" yard 'sale' at Station 1 on Pumphouse Road near Rockwood on June 3 and 4 (Friday and Saturday).
Volunteers and supporters endured record high temperatures to make the event a success. Extra water and fans were provided for safety in the heat.
The event grossed $2,695.21. Many thanks are due to all who helped.

West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department participated once again in the annual United Way Family Fun Day, held from 8 AM to 4 PM on May 21, 2011 at Roane State Community College. Volunteers brought a fire truck and were on hand throughout the free event.
The family event featured Roane County's community services, resources, and volunteer opportunities.
The CASA 5k Run & Fun Walk started at 8 AM.
