Mr. James Virgil “Jim” Brown, age 56, a resident of S. Patton Avenue, Rockwood, Tennessee, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. He was born August 26, 1951 in Jasper, AL. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving as a Lance Corporal. Jim was a retired Health Physics Technician with Bartlett Nuclear. Jim was a Firefighter and First Responder with West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Roane County Rescue Squad. He was formerly a Firefighter with Harriman Fire Department and a softball umpire in Harriman leagues. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Minnie Brown, and former wife, Shirley Ann Garrigan.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Evans Mortuary with Chaplain Bruce Foster officiating. Graveside services and interment were held Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the Elverton Cemetery in Harriman. The family received friends Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Evans Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Roane County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 474, Kingston, TN 37763; or to the West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 417, Rockwood, TN 37854. An online register is available.
