    • GIMP - Excellent free Open Source image editing program. Does nearly everything Photoshop does. (If you have Photoshop, you won't need GIMP.) To resize an image, File | Open the image in GIMP, then right-click anywhere on the image. Choose Image | Scale Image in the right-click menu to get the scaling window open. Fill in the new desired dimensions, then click on the Scale button in the window. To save an optimized copy of the image suitable for use on the Web, choose File | Save As and you will be asked about compression in the saving process. A .jpg quality = 30 is usually good for photos. Highly recommended
    • Inkscape - Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format. Can import Illustrator .ai files. Also for Linux and Mac OSX
