Free online training classes in Emergency Management still available.

• Updated August 24, 2009: Most of these free classes are 30 minutes to several hours in length and can be taken with no commitment, on the spur of the moment, any time of the day or night. Many will earn college credit for a small added fee. For more information about these free classes, see:

  • United States Navy Electronics and Electricity Training
  • CDC: Public Health Planning for Radiological and Nuclear Terrorism - free web-based or CD-based class for First Responders, Haz/Mat, and others
  • NCBRT eLearning - free Department of Homeland Security-certified classes for emergency management personnel offered by the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training (NCBRT) Academy of Counter Terrorist Education.
  • Online Courses - free courses relating to volunteers and national service from NationalServiceResources.org
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology Open Courseware - free online materials for 1900 college courses: video, course materials, homework, tests
  • EPATest.com - free online training and practice tests for EPA certifications. Certification tests and grading available for small fee.
  • More online training opportunities - excellent list maintained by the United States State Department.

Paid online training classes

• These classes can be taken online at a distance and some give college credit.

  • Fire Services Administration at the University of Memphis - U.S. Fire Administration (NFA) curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in Fire Services Administration.
  • Yale Hew Haven free classes online - This was free but not since April 2008
